Huntsville is well-known for being the “Rocket City”; however in recent decades the city is evolving into the engineering capital of the South. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Huntsville is significantly higher in employing STEM related labor opportunities when compared to nationwide statistics.

Jim Chilton, V.P. and GM of Boeing’s Strategic Missile & Defense Systems, had this to say about the project “What it is, is the seeker that we built here, finds out, it gets cued where the target is. It opens their eyes, finds the target and hunts it down and kills it.” Boeing supplied the first 20 PAC-3 seekers in 200; since then expanded the program, producing the company’s 1,500th in Huntsville in 2012.

Most recently, Boeing is adding 28,000 square feet to their Huntsville facility which will house 70-80 new engineering and manufacturing employees for the PAC-3 Missile Seeker.   As the hub of defense projects, Huntsville is paving the way for engineering innovations.
